Athenarium | Strategy, Investing, and Decision-Making

More ideas, less noise

Athenarium is a synthesis of ideas and articles in markets, economics, and systems-thinking. We seek mental models, deep principles, and enduring ideas to assist with better decision-making.

Our project is guided by a few values:

  1. Enduring ideas: As a small team, we do not have the editorial or financial horsepower of larger publications. So we hope to create value by focusing on good ideas.
  2. Demystify: We want to simplify and make obvious the topics we write about. Good ideas are self-evident. They speak for themselves.
  3. Cross-disciplinary: Economics and finance have a lot to learn from other fields. Our wider interests include evolutionary biology, behavioural psychology, and the complexity sciences.
  4. Open-access: We believe in open-access learning and want to keep Athenarium free to all readers for as long as we can. For this reason, we rely on light advertising and affiliate partnerships to cover our expenses.

What’s in a name?

We named this project after Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, good counsel, warfare, and civilization. Arium is the Latin suffix for place. So Athenarium is like an ‘aquarium’ of good ideas. Well, that’s the intent at least. (Athenaeum, by the way, is Latin for an institution of reading and learning.)

Who are we?

We admire The Economist’s policy of author anonymity and have adopted the same for ourselves. This suits us because we’re introverts. More importantly, it means that this project is less about us and more about the books, papers, and thinkers we write about. Of course, external contributors are fully credited for their work.

Want to contribute?

Originally, we began this project to catalogue our readings over time. Since then, we’ve opened Athenarium to external contributors that wish to share their reviews, research, essays and musings with our readers as well. If you’re interested in contributing, please let us know.
